Two arrested after high-speed chase

PORT ANGELES — Two men are in custody after a high-speed chase from Port Angeles to Little River Road this afternoon.

Police officers stopped a white Nissan Maxima at about 6:15 p.m. on Little River Road — a windy, dirt road up a wooded hill south of Port Angeles — as the two unidentified men were heading west toward the road’s intersection with Black Diamond Road.

The chase began at about 5:45 p.m., when a Port Angeles police officer drove behind the Maxima on Chambers Street, police said at the scene of the arrest.

The car took off at a high speed, and occupants tossed out two packages of what police said appeared to be methamphetamine.

Both were arrested on investigation of attempting to elude officers.

The driver also was taken into custody on a misdemeanor warrant, police said.

Port Angeles police officers made the arrest with assistance from Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies, Lower Elwha Klallam tribal police officers and Olympic National Park rangers.
