Yessenia Milynn Ugarte’s birthday won’t be hard to forget — 1/2/03.
Born late Thursday night at Port Townsend’s Jefferson General Hospital to parents Heather Manthe and Miguel Ugarte of Port Townsend, the little Ugarte is the first baby of the new year on the North Olympic Peninsula.
“It’s a nice birthday,” Manthe said Friday afternoon from her hospital room.
As the year’s first baby, Yessenia received a quilt from a local quilting group and a knitted stocking cap that looks like a holly berry, Manthe said.
In Clallam County, the first baby of the year did not arrive until Friday.
Eric Dayton Swidecki was born at 10:35 a.m. to parents Marva Daman and Eric Swidecki, both of Forks, at Forks Community Hospital in Forks.
Eric arrived one day early, weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces as a “healthy, bouncing baby boy” with “tons of hair,” Associate Director of Nursing Barb Enos said Friday.
Less than half an hour later, Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles saw its first baby of 2003 — Hallie Rae, born at 11 a.m. to parents Jayme Guckert and Justin Agren of Port Angeles.
