Firefighters battled a blaze as it consumed Tracy Hedin’s 1977 Volkswagen camper van shortly after 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the corner of the Lincoln and Seventh streets in Port Angeles.
A leaking fuel line ignited inside the van’s engine compartment, resulting in a fire that consumed the vehicle.
Capt. Terry Reid of the Port Angeles Fire Department said no one was injured in the blaze, and firefighters put it out in about five minutes.
Hedin of Port Angeles told Reid she had not driven the vintage van since last summer and had taken it out for a drive.
Reid said the van drove for a few blocks before the engine stopped.
Hedin and a passenger then reportedly got out before the fire engulfed the engine compartment.
