PORT ANGELES — Troopers are investigating a hit-and-run collision with another vehicle on U.S. Highway 101, Trooper Russell Winger, State Patrol spokesman, said Saturday.

A 1999 Honda Civic that struck a 1973 Dodge pickup truck is believed to have been stolen in Mason County, Winger said.

The collision happened at about 7:09 p.m. Friday at Milepost 259.2 on eastbound Highway 101 near Dryke Road.

Terry Tveit, 51, who was driving the pickup, suffered minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital, Winger said.

Tveit’s city of residence and information about the date and time the vehicle was stolen were unavailable Saturday, Winger said.

The identity of the driver of the Honda also was unknown Saturday, he said.

The only description available is that the driver appeared to be a man in his mid-40s with thinning hair, Winger said.

“We had a limited description at the time of [the collision] and of course the vehicle was stolen,” Winger said.

“Troopers will be following up [and] trying to get more information. The investigation is still ongoing.”

The man was accompanied by two juveniles of unknown age, a boy and a girl, Winger said.

The trio “apparently got out of the car and at some point, another vehicle arrived at the scene there, and they got in that car, which was a black sedan or a dark sedan,” possibly a convertible, “and left the scene,” Winger said.

“Currently, as far as I know, the [man is] still outstanding. They have not found anybody yet.”

Winger encourages anyone with information about the incident to call the State Patrol’s Bremerton office at 360-473-0300.

“If they have any information about that incident or know anything or saw anything, we always encourage that they call and let us know, and we will have our investigators talk to them.”

Both the Dodge and Honda were towed from the scene, with the Honda impounded by the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Winger said.
