Speed, rain lead to injury collision near Brinnon

BRINNON — An 18-year-old Grayland woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision on state Highway 101 near Yelvik General Store about 4 miles north of Brinnon.

Brooklyn E. Barnet was one of two passengers in a silver 2004 Chevrolet Classic traveling southbound at milepost 303 at about 6:14 p.m. Saturday when the driver, Shaleah J. Sinnett, 20, lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the centerline and struck the jersey barrier on the northbound shoulder, State Patrol Trooper Casey Corey said.

A second vehicle, a green 2013 Subaru Outback driven by Jon B. McLees, 35, of Lacey, was traveling northbound and swerved into the southbound lane to avoid the Chevrolet, which struck the right rear corner of the Outback, pushing it into the southbound embankment, Corey state in the State Patrol memo.

Barnet was transported to Jefferson Healthcare hospital in Port Townsend, where she was treated and released the same evening, said Amy Yaley, director of marketing and communications at Jefferson Healthcare.

Sinnett was cited for driving too fast for the wet roadway conditions, while the second passenger — Austyn B. Cox, 19, of Grayland — was cited for not wearing a seatbelt, according to the State Patrol.

Drugs or alcohol were not factors in the collision, the State Patrol said.

Both vehicles were destroyed and towed by Northwest Towing & Recovery, according to the State Patrol. The Chevrolet was impounded.
