Sequim Service Fest begins second week

SEQUIM— Sequim Service Fest volunteers have completed the first week of public and private projects in the neighborhood revitalization program.

The event will continue through Friday. Work this week will focus on private resident projects, as well as completing construction of the neighborhood kiosks and work on reroofing the gazebo and building a shed at Carrie Blake Park.

Community members who want to volunteer can sign in at the Guy Cole Event Center at Carrie Blake Park each weekday morning through Friday.

Today, more than 50 members of the community picked up quarts of paint in the city of Sequim logo colors to decorate their homes, said Barbra Hanna, Sequim marketing director.

The arbor and benches at 1st Security Bank on the corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street were painted, and painting continued on the city building on the corner of Sequim Avenue and Spruce Street, she said.

Paint can be picked up at the Guy Cole Center weekday mornings though Friday, while supplies last.

Habitat for Humanity Care-A-Vanners removed debris, built a fence and painted a private property on West Hammond Street last week, Hanna said.

Other projects were:

• Volunteers primed a house for paint on West Spruce and a structure on Spruce Street was removed.

• Dugouts and benches at Dr. Standard Park were painted and the dugouts were reroofed.

• A new picnic shelter was constructed at Margaret Kirner Park.

• Construction of information kiosks in each of the city’s seven neighborhoods began.

At a Rally in the Alley last Wednesday, six dumpsters at three locations were filled with unwanted items and debris by 10 a.m.

The first-of-its-kind event is a partnership among the city of Sequim, Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County and First Federal.
