Port Angeles woman hurt in collision with semitruck

PORT ANGELES — A 38-year-old woman was injured Tuesday when the pickup she was driving collided with a semitruck in Port Angeles, city police said.

Beth Matias of Port Angeles was taken to Olympic Medical Center to be evaluated for a head injury after the Dodge Dakota she was driving rolled through a stop sign and collided with a semitruck in the intersection of West 10th and South N streets on the city’s west side, Officer Brian Stamon said.

Condition not available

Matias was listed as in satisfactory condition Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the semi, whom Stamon could not identify, had minor back pain and was not taken to the hospital, the officer said.

Matias was driving eastbound on West 10th Street when the collision occurred, Stamon said.

Failed to stop

She received a traffic citation for failing to stop at a stop sign.

The driver of the semi was traveling north on South N street when the pickup entered the intersection, Stamon said.

“He did not have enough time or distance to stop for the vehicle and collided into it,” Stamon said.

Drugs or alcohol were not suspected as causes of the wreck, Stamon said.

The intersection remained blocked until about 1:30 p.m. to allow street department workers to clean up oil that had spilled into the street and a storm drain, the police reported.
