Port Angeles School Board to interview semi-finalists for superintendent

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School District board has selected five semi-finalists for its next superintendent who will interview via Zoom on Saturday.

The successful candidate will replace Marty Brewer, who is stepping down when his contract ends Aug. 31.

“The Board is excited about the experience, talent, and leadership qualities each candidate brings and looks forward to identifying the best fit for our district,” the school district said in a statement.

The board met via Zoom in an executive session on Tuesday to review candidates. A district representative declined to release the number of applicants for the position, saying that was in keeping with the confidential nature of the hiring process.

The board decided to maintain the confidentiality of candidates because it would allow for a better pool of candidates.

The board will conduct the Saturday interviews in an executive session will end with an open session at which it will vote on finalists. In-person interviews with finalists will take place in executive sessions on Feb. 27-28.

On March 1, the board will meet again in executive session to make its choice. The name will be made public sometime that week.

The board agreed at its Jan. 23 meeting to offer a base salary of $220,000, about 30 percent more than the $175,552 Brewer earns.
