OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — The weather must improve before Olympic National Park officials can determine what to do with a 1993 Jeep Cherokee that plunged 450 feet off Hurricane Ridge Road on Saturday.
Its driver and passenger “apparently are doing very well,” park spokeswoman Barb Maynes said Sunday.
Jennifer M. Maurer, 22, and Ryan L. Brumbagh, 21, both of Seattle, clambered to safety after the crash with the help of John Stieber of Bremerton, an Olympic Mountain Rescue volunteer.
Except for Maurer’s cut finger, they emerged unharmed.
Their Jeep plummeted down a 50-degree slope and over near-vertical cliffs of 40 and 25 feet, scattering pieces as it fell.
Bad weather closed Hurricane Ridge Road on Sunday, delaying attempts at retrieving the wreck.
“It’s just going to wait for a safer day,” Maynes said.
