PORT ANGELES — The deadline has been extended to May 31 for city residents to complete a survey on potential future cable TV programming services provided by Wave Broadband.
City officials wanted more than 400 responses to the online questionnaire, which takes about 10 minutes to complete, and are just shy of 300, city Power Resource Manager Gregg King said Thursday.
The deadline originally was this past Thursday.
There are 4,000 to 5,000 Wave cable subscribers in the city limit, King said.
The survey, which applies to only TV service and not Wave’s Internet or phone service, is required under Wave’s 15-year franchise with the city, which expires in 2017.
It is intended to provide residents with a chance to share opinions about current and potential future cable service, such as community channels and a Community Media Center.
The information gathered will help to determine if existing local cable services and resources are adequate and identify changes that might be made to meet current and future needs, King said.
Wave’s agreement with the city allows the company to use public rights of way in exchange for providing certain services to Wave customers.
The survey results may be presented to the City Council on July 31, King said.
The Buske Group, a Sacramento, Calif.-based consulting firm, is assisting the city with the franchise renewal processes under a $76,850 contract that covers 2014-17.
The survey is available at http://tinyurl.com/PDN-Wavesurvey, at the city of Port Angeles website (www.cityofpa.us — under “Community Spotlight”) or directly at www.surveymonkey.com/s/Port-Angeles-Survey.
Surveys also can be obtained from King at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
