PORT ANGELES — A 36-year-old man was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in an alley in Port Angeles on Saturday afternoon.
The man died shortly after law enforcement and emergency responders arrived, Port Angeles Police Chief Brian Smith said.
A report came in at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday of a man shot in an alley in the 1700 block of Second Street. Clallam County deputies arrived on scene as Port Angeles police were on another call.
Smith said a firearm was found nearby and the man was still breathing when officers arrived, but he died shortly afterward.
Law enforcement believes the gunshot was self-inflicted, Smith said. The Clallam County Coroner’s Office will make the final determination.
Smith said release of the man’s identity is pending because next of kin had yet to be identified Sunday afternoon.
