SEQUIM — After a 2½-hour discussion Tuesday night, the Sequim Planning Commission unanimously endorsed a large subdivision on Priest Road that had sparked concern among neighbors and interested parties.
The proposal for a 202-lot subdivision known as Jennie’s Meadow that would be located behind Wal-Mart now goes before the Sequim City Council.
The Planning Commission recommended approval after a series of questions and comments about the project’s effect on neighbors, groundwater, the nearby Dungeness River, traffic and wildlife.
Eagle plan necessary
The developer, MRP Partners, must have a management plan for bald eagles known to frequent the area before final approval can be given.
The development also will have wells to monitor groundwater, something that’s been required of the Wal-Mart and Home Depot shopping centers as well.
Several area residents obtain water through wells and are worried that runoff from nearby development will foul their supply.
The aquifer and Dungeness River are also linked.
The proposal calls for 150 single-family homes and 52 townhomes on 52.8 acres.
