Peninsula Daily News begins a free weekly newspaper Sept. 13

Peninsula Daily News will publish a free weekly newspaper for the residents of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley beginning next Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Sequim This Week will be mailed to the 10,500 households in the 98382 ZIP code — Sequim, Blyn, Carlsborg, Dungeness and Diamond Point — and will arrive every Wednesday.

The first Wednesday edition will be 52 pages. It is a tab, the same format as the PDN’s Peninsula Spotlight and Peninsula Woman.

The new weekly will focus exclusively on news, issues, people, places and events in the Sequim area.

There is no subscription fee and, in addition to mail, it will be available free at a number of Sequim businesses.

In addition to puzzles, a weekly “look-ahead” weather graphic and advice columnists, it will have Sequim government news, Sequim School District news, Sequim business news, community event calendars, Sequim 9-1-1 police reports and advertising.

[It serves Jefferson and Clallam counties on the North Olympic Peninsula of Washington state. Its average daily circulation is 19,000.]

Peninsula Daily News now publishes separate editions of the PDN for Jefferson and Clallam counties, with news and photos tailored for readers in each county.

“This is a weekly extension of our daily Clallam edition,” said John Brewer, PDN editor and publisher.

“It in no way replaces the daily PDN, with its breaking news coverage and broad Peninsula coverage.

“Instead, Sequim This Week supplements the PDN. It brings home more local news to our thousands and thousands of Sequim readers.

“Sequim is the fastest-growing and, increasingly, the most complex area on the North Olympic Peninsula.

“We are bringing out this free weekly to better serve the residents of this area, and our advertisers.”

Brewer added:

“If you live in the Sequim area, look for Sequim This Week in your mailbox every Wednesday, or on racks or counters at greater Sequim-area businesses and offices.”

$1,000 contest

To kickoff the new publication, there will be an eight-week contest with four weekly $100 prizes and a chance at the grand prize, a treasure chest filled with prizes valued at more than $1,000.

Editor of Sequim This Week is Roger Harnack, former local news editor of the PDN.

Associate editor is Brenda Hanrahan, a former PDN reporter.

Sequim This Week will be produced at the PDN’s Sequim office, 510 W. Washington St.

To reach Harnack, phone 360-477-2705; Hanrahan, 360-460-2124.

“Sequim This Week’s informative mix will give you news you can use to enhance your life or to discuss Sequim issues over a cup of coffee,” said Harnack.

“Let me sum it up for you,” he added.

* “In-depth coverage of Sequim people, places and events.

* “Sequim news. Sequim entertainment. Sequim recreation.

* “Puzzles and fun activities.

* “Free delivery to 10,500 homes.”
