Peninsula: Circus comes to town, so does protest

With Circus Gatti’s performance in Port Angeles on Saturday came objections.

The circus uses wild and exotic animals; this caused local animal rights activists to stage a small protest at the entrance gate to the Clallam County Fairgrounds.

A circus official dismissed the protests and said the animals were well-treated.

“I have nothing to defend,” he said.

The circus is in Port Townsend today for two performances, but the circus animals won’t be part of those shows.

A Port Townsend city ordinance prohibits the showing of “wild and/or exotic animals.”
