PORT TOWNSEND — Northwind Art recently announced that Shin Yu Pai has been hired as its new education director.

The new position was created by the January merger of the Port Townsend School of the Arts and the Northwinds Arts Center.

Pai has taught at the University of Texas at Dallas and at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Pai will oversee all both virtual and in-person classes, lectures and workshops; develop relationships with teaching artists and students; and build the Northwind Art curriculum.

Pai comes to Northwind from the Seattle-based Atlas Obscura where she produced educational and public programs, according to a press release.

She has also created content for Seattle University and Town Hall Seattle; to include producing the Lyric World podcast.

Pai is the author of 10 volumes of poetry including her 2020 publication, “Enso.”

She and her husband, acupuncturist Markus Bergman, and their son Tomo plan to move to Port Townsend this summer.
