NEWS BRIEFS — No injuries in three-car wreck on state Highway 20 south of Port Townsend . . . and other items

PORT TOWNSEND — Three vehicles were involved in a non-injury wreck on rain-soaked state Highway 20 south of Port Townsend on Wednesday, said an East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokesman.

Firefighters alerted to the wreck at 1:07 p.m. arrived to find three vehicles pulled to the side of the highway in the northbound lane, said Bill Beezley, department spokesman, who did not identify any of those involved.

The highway was partially blocked near the intersection with South Jacob Miller Road for 24 minutes.

The drivers of the first two vehicles told firefighters they had to quickly slow down when a car in front of them turned left while westbound on Highway 20 just before South Jacob Miller Road.

The first vehicle in line was a white Dodge pickup truck towing a 16-foot power boat and driven by a Chimacum man, 34, who said he came to a complete stop and saw in his rear-view mirror that the car behind him had also come to a complete stop, Beezley said.

That second car, a silver Chevrolet Cruze sedan driven by a 23-year old man from Michigan, was struck from the rear by a third vehicle, a red Kia Rio driven by a 38-year old Port Hadlock woman, Beezely said.

The force of the impact pushed the Chevrolet Cruze into the prop of the boat being towed by the Dodge, causing damage to the hood of the Cruze, he said.

The boat prop, trailer and Kia Rio suffered damage, Beezley said.
