NEWS BRIEFS: Meeting set Wednesday for board … and other items

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Public Infrastructure Fund Board will hold a meeting from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be in county commissioners chambers, 1820 Jefferson St.

During the meeting, the board will hear an update on the status of a county code revision among other items.

PA School Board

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School Board will have its regular meeting Thursday.

The meeting at the Central Services Building, 216 E. Fourth St., will begin with an executive session at 6:30 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m.

The agenda includes a Roosevelt Elementary report, September financial report and the superintendent’s report.

New chief nursing officer in PT

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Healthcare has announced that Tina Toner is its new chief nursing officer.

Toner, a registered nurse, has 15 years of experience in medical, surgical and family birth nursing as well as nurse leadership experience.

Toner comes to Port Townsend from nine years as the chief nursing officer of a Critical Access Hospital in Lovell, Wyo.

Along with her extensive experience Toner has a Master of Science degree in Nursing, Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Toner is the 2016 recipient of the Wyoming Nurse of the Year — Norman S. Holt Award for Excellence in Nursing.

Non-U.S. residents to pay more for visiting

About 150 to 200 people jumped into 49-degree water at Hollywood Beach on Jan. 1, 2025, for the 37th annual Polar Bear Dip. The air temperature was about 39 degrees, so it was a short, brisk dip that they did three times. There was a beach fire to warm the dippers afterward as well as two portable saunas in the parking lot. The event was sponsored by Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County under the leadership of organizer Dan Welden. Hot drinks, tasty muffins and a certificate for participants were available.
