SEQUIM — Author and interfaith minister George Lindamood will host “A Shared Exploration of the Second Half of Life,” a discussion group, on Thursdays from now on at the Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Co.
There’s no charge to join the group, which meets at 10 a.m. at Rainshadow, 157 W. Cedar St.
Lindamood started holding the group earlier this month on Wednesdays, and has switched to Thursdays so it can meet in the cafe’s more private back room.
Discussions explore the lessons learned, experiences and even defeats that come in the second half of life, after age 40 or so.
Lindamood’s own experiences include volunteering with AmeriCorps at Sequim Middle School, teaching English in China and playing trumpet and keyboards in local bands.

Day of Mindfulness
PORT TOWNSEND — Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave., will host a Day of Mindfulness between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday.
Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
For experienced or beginning meditators, spend the day in silence with half-hour periods of sitting meditation and 20-minute periods of walking meditation.
Meditation can be done in a chair, lying down or on a cushion or chair.
Some meditation instruction will be provided, and a talk will be part of the morning schedule.
Bring a bag lunch.
Participants should indicate at registration whether they are planning to attend for the full day or for only the morning using the “notes to the instructor” option in SignUpGenius.

Volunteer advocates for kids sought
The Guardian Ad Litem Program, a division of Jefferson County Juvenile and Family Court, is looking for volunteers to start training March 10.
Volunteers receive in-depth training over 12 weeks to prepare them to be an advocate for a child in need.
Jefferson County GALs work to advocate for the best interest of children involved in the dependency and foster care system. Volunteers also receive ongoing training and support from the GAL office when they begin to take cases.

Tree planting event
PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Salmon Coalition is seeking volunteers to plant trees to enhance salmon habitat along Siebert Creek from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Tools and gloves will be provided.
The event also will include a short tour of the conservation area. Bring warm, waterproof clothes and boots, water, warm beverages and a lunch.
Access to the site is off Old Olympic Highway, and parking is limited.

Boating safety
PORT ANGELES — The Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 42 Sequim-Port Angeles will sponsor a boating safety class Saturday.
“About Boating Safely” will be held at the Port Angeles Fire Station, 102 E. Fifth St., at 9 a.m.
This class will qualify participants for a Washington State Boater Education Card. This card is required for all boaters who are younger than 60.
The cost is $15 per person or $20 for a couple.
