Chadd E. Miller, 27, who was slain in Wurtland, Ky., Saturday, will be remembered by family and friends at a viewing today and a memorial gathering on Friday.
The viewing will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Kosec Funeral Home & Crematory, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend.
“If any of his friends want to write him a letter or bring a small item to put in his casket to be cremated with him, they can,” Jackie Richards, a friend of Miller’s, said Wednesday.
The memorial gathering will be at 5 p.m. Friday at the Chimacum Odd Fellows Lodge, 11323 Rhody Drive.
Miller, a former employee of Westbay NAPA Auto Parts in Port Townsend, had moved from Chimacum to the northeastern Kentucky town of Wurtland on July 27 to live with Amber Nolan, 33, after he met her on the social networking site, My Space, a few months earlier, authorities said.
Miller was fatally shot at about 3 a.m. Saturday by Nolan’s ex-boyfriend at the woman’s house, authorities said.
Beryl W. Smith, 33, has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and first-degree wanton endangerment, and could face the death penalty if convicted.
Chimacum graduate
Miller was a 2000 Chimacum High School graduate.
“Anyone who knew him, even in passing, from when he worked at Westbay or went to school with him, is welcome” at the memorial get-together, Richards said.
“We are all very devastated,” she said.
“He went out of his way to help anyone in need. All of our friends who have kids called him Uncle Chadd.”
