Legislative update, forest management on county agendas

Government meetings across North Olympic Peninsula listed

The boards of local government agencies will meet next week on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Clallam County

The three Clallam County commissioners will hear a legislative update during their weekly business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The commissioners’ work session, at 9 a.m. Monday, will preview items set for action at their formal meeting on Tuesday.

All Clallam County public meetings on Monday through Friday next week will be conducted virtually only while the commissioners’ board room upgrade is underway.

Agenda items include:

• An agreement with Clallam Public Defender for $2,690,284 to provide indigent public defense services through June 30, 2024.

• An amended agreement with True Star Behavioral Health Services for $94,189 for outpatient substance use disorder services from Jan. 1, 2021 through Dec. 31, 2023.

• An amended agreement with the state Department of Ecology extending the current pollution identification and correction program through June 30.

• A resolution appointing Forks City Council member Jeff Gingell to the vacant seat on the county Board of Health.

• A letter of support for Feiro Marine Life Center’s new marine discovery center project.

• A letter of support for the Port of Port Angeles Foreign Trade Zone application.

• Updates on Olympic National Park, from park manager Sula Jacobs, and Olympic National Forest, from forest managers.

• Discussion on the possible replacement of the courthouse variable air volume system.

• A public hearing at 10:30 a.m. regarding the sale of two surplus boat motors.

• An amended agreement with Port Angeles Baseball to extend its Volunteer Field turf project.

• An agreement with the state Military Department for a $423,037 hazardous materials emergency preparedness grant.

• An agreement with the city of Port Angeles to share costs for a joint evidence storage facility.

• An agreement with the Department of Commerce for a STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant for training sheriff’s deputies as well as officers from the Sequim and Port Angeles police departments.

• An agreement the Olympic Peninsula Community Clinic for $460,180 in American Rescue Plan Act funding for the two-year Clallam Respite Care pilot project.

The commissioners will hear an update on public health and emergency management at 9:45 a.m., hear an update on Peninsula Trails Coalition and consider a letter of support regarding a U.S. Department of Transportation RAISE grant and conduct workshop regarding noxious weed control.

Items on the consent agenda include an agreement with the caretakers of Gibbs Lake County Park, a temporary use permit for Rice Lake Pit, an agreement with Olympic Community Action Programs (OlyCAP) for $49,300 to provide transitional housing support and a series of agreements with Bayside Housing Services, Dove House and OlyCAP for a total $790,500 in 2023 Affordable Housing/Homelessness grant funds for housing projects.’

Association of counties

The Washington State Association of Counties will hear a weekly update on COVID-19 when they meet at noon Monday.

Both Clallam and Jefferson counties will participate.

Port of Port Townsend

Port of Port Townsend commissioners will conduct a workshop meeting at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and meet in a regular session at 1 p.m.

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will conduct a special meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The commissioners will discuss the history of the existing Bonneville Power Administration contract, the current energy environment and relevant topics regarding the upcoming contract renewal.

The Port Angeles Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing on Pursuing Housing For All, an initiative to amend the municipal code at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be in person at Port Angeles City Hall council chambers, at 321 E. Fifth St., as well as online via Webex, the link to which will be on the city planning commission website.

The City of Port Angeles is seeking public comment on proposed zoning code changes to improve housing development and affordability.

The public also can provide written comment up until 5 p.m. Wednesday by emailing ced@cityofpa.us or mailing the City of Port Angeles, c/o CED, 321 E. Fifth St., Port Angeles WA, 98362.

The Port Angeles City Council will consider a resolution to continue to waive interest on utility accounts through September when it meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

They also will consider suspending full payment requirements for reconnection through December.

Port Townsend city

The council will consider authorizing the city manager to enter into a contract with FCS Group for the update of the sewer and stormwater rate studies; solicit and enter into a contract with an engineering firm to develop a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Phase II Stormwater Program; and to enter into an agreement for sewer line video inspections.

The Chimacum School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
