Jefferson: County resumes talks on creating new urban growth areas

PORT TOWNSEND — Mark the time — 11:16:49 a.m. June 11.

That’s when Jefferson County commissioners unanimously restarted the clock ticking on a decision to create urban growth areas in the Tri-Area and Glen Cove areas.

Commissioners said they want the matter resolved by the end of next year. Their hope is to have proposed comprehensive plan amendments ready for the May 2002 amendment cycle.

Planning efforts could begin in August, provided a consultant can be hired.

And community planning groups could be created in September. They would be charged with deciding how to designate land use.

In the Glen Cove area, commissioners want land used for light-industrial and associated commercial activities. But the area could include some residential zoning.
