PORT ANGELES —The “unexpected fatality review” of Joshua Bones’ Dec. 23 suicide in the Clallam County jail is scheduled to be completed next week and then sent to the state Department of Health for review.
The committee members writing the report met as a body Wednesday after reviewing all relevant files and asking clarifying questions, Clallam County Sheriff Brian King wrote in a Thursday morning email.
The report will be generated from the meeting and then committee members will review it for accuracy before sending it, the email stated.
RCW 72.09.770, requires the review to be completed within 120 days of the fatality. Bones died on Dec. 23, which would make the deadline April 27. Unexpected fatality reviews are available in the “Injury and Violence Prevention” section of the state department of health’s website, www.doh.gov.
Bones, 39, was found hanging by his neck from a blanket by a corrections deputy during cell checks after midnight on Dec. 23, according to a press release from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to Olympic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
After Bones was discovered, corrections deputies attempted life-saving procedures, including chest compressions and use of an automated external defibrillator, the release stated.
Bones was awaiting trial on felony assault charges and was the sole occupant of his cell when he was discovered by deputies, the release said.
King said at the time Bones was alone in the two-person cell because of jail population at the time.
