Increased police presence expected at Port Angeles High School on Friday

PORT ANGELES — An increased police presence is expected at Port Angeles High School on Friday due to what the school district described as a potential threat written on a desk in a science classroom.

The message referenced a possible shooting during fifth period on Friday, Principal Jeff Lunt wrote in an message sent to parents Thursday night.

The message was not immediately reported to the teacher, Lunt said, so the school has not been able to identify the student responsible.

“Please know that the Port Angeles School District takes all threats to safety very seriously,” Lunt wrote. “Port Angeles High School administration, in cooperation with our School Resource Officer from the Port Angeles Police Department (PAPD), has conducted a thorough investigation, including interviews with students seated in the vicinity of the desk where the message was found.

“At this time, we have not been able to determine who authored the threat, but we will continue to follow up on any leads and take appropriate action.”

Port Angeles High School will operate on a normal schedule on Friday, Lunt wrote. It was unclear if any other schools in the district would be affected.

Lunt said there would be an increased police presence on campus throughout the day on Friday out of an abundance of caution.
