SEQUIM — Sequim overcame four-first half interceptions and 15 penalties to wallop Port Angeles 49-6 in the Rainshadow Rumble on Friday.
The Roughriders’ defense stuffed the Wolves on their opening drive and promptly marched down the field with a new-look zone read offense and a new starting quarterback, junior Tyrus Beckett.
Taylor Millsap scored on a 1-yard run and Port Angeles led 6-0 with 7:45 to play in the first quarter.
But it was all Sequim after that.
Arnold Black ran for three first-half touchdowns for the Wolves (3-1, 5-1).
Gavin Velarde electrified the Homecoming crowd by taking a Riley Cowan rollout pass 64 yards for a TD.
Velarde hurdled a Port Angeles defender and then used pure speed to race down the sideline for a score.
Sequim ran its lead to 28-6 at the half and added to its advantage with more big plays in the second half.
Cowan found Noah Christiansen for a 22-yard TD pass, James Thayer returned an interception 25 yards for another score and Mark Feeney capped the scoring by plowing over two Port Angeles defenders for a 14-yard rushing TD.
Neah Bay 62, Lummi 12
NEAH BAY — Three big plays separated the Red Devils from the Blackhawks in Friday night’s game.
After Lummi cut Neah Bay’s lead to 14-6 with 27 seconds left in the first half, Rwehabura Munyagi Jr. hooked up with Cameron Buzzell for a 62-yard touchdown pass with 10 second left in the half to give the Red Devils a 22-6 halftime lead.
Cole Svec then returned the second-half kickoff for a TD to make it 30-6.
Lummi drove inside the Neah Bay 20-yard line on the ensuing drive, but Svec picked off Blackhawks quarterback Jonathan Casimir at the 11.
Two plays later, Munyagi threw over the top to Buzzell for an 86-yard touchdown. With 9:42 left in the third quarter, the Red Devils’ lead had ballooned to 36-6.
Svec scored five touchdowns for the second-ranked Red Devils, who have won nine straight over Lummi.

COUPEVILLE — Finally. After two close calls this season, the Cowboys finally broke through to win their first game in nearly two years.
Chimacum trailed 9-6, but score in the final seconds to beat the Wolves on Friday night.

PORT TOWNSEND — The Redhawks clinched their second straight Olympic League 1A title by pulling away from the Eagles in the second half Friday at Memorial Field.
Klahowya is responsible for all 12 points scored on Port Townsend this season.
