Freshwater: No public hearing on fire district switch

JOYCE — Clallam County commissioners will consider a resolution Feb. 5 allowing Freshwater Bay residents to switch fire districts.

But commissioners won’t be holding a public hearing on the matter.

Freshwater Bay residents say switching from Clallam County Fire District No. 2 to Fire District No. 4 will mean a new fire station closer to their homes.

The switch would also mean only basic life support services will be available from District No. 4, rather than advanced life support services available through District No. 2.

Freshwater Bay is west of the Elwha River in the northwest corner of Fire District No. 2, which encompasses rural Port Angeles.

The nearest District No. 2 station is Dry Creek, located east of the Elwha River at 700 Power Plant Road.

Fire District No. 4 covers the Joyce area. That district’s fire station is located on state Highway 112 in Joyce.
