EYE ON JEFFERSON: Commissioners to discuss population estimates, comprehensive plan updates

The three Jefferson County commissioners will hear an update about comprehensive plans and population estimates for Port Townsend and the entire county when they meet Monday.

The topic will be addressed at the afternoon briefing session at 1:30 p.m. in chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

The workshop will be preceded by the regular meeting at 9 a.m.

The city and county are each in the process of a comprehensive plan update, which requires coordination between the two governing bodies.

One topic is the allocation of population between rural and urban areas, which influences other aspects of the plan.

Also during the afternoon briefing, commissioners will review the license and operating agreement between the county and the Jefferson County Sportsman’s Club.

The contract under consideration would allow the club to operate a firing range at 116 Gun Club Road.

Items on the consent agenda during the regular meeting include:

■ A resolution establishing objectives and procedures for the 2016 county budget.

■ Approval of a $4,650 community services grant to the Jefferson County Fair Association.

■ An agreement to install Clayton White as the Lake Leland Campground host.

■ Changing the meeting time of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month. Currently, the board meets from noon to 2 p.m. that day.
