EYE ON JEFFERSON: Board eyes rules for pot businesses

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider adopting an ordinance establishing regulations for recreational marijuana businesses when they meet Monday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

At a May 21 meeting, Commissioners Phil Johnson and Kathleen Kler voted in favor of the new rules that break down allowable locales by type and location, but Commissioner David Sullivan opposed them.

A moratorium on new marijuana businesses is set to expire June 11.

An executive session is set at 10 a.m. with the county administrator, deputy prosecuting attorney, Department of Community Development director and associate planner concerning actual litigation.

At 1:30 p.m., commissioners will be briefed on floodplain acquisitions in Quilcene.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend City Council will hear a report on the first year of the Fort Worden Lifelong Learning Center Public Development Authority when it meets Monday,

The workshop will begin at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The council also will hear an update on the Six-Year Transportation Improvement Plan.

Council office hours, during which members of the public can discuss any topic with a member of the City Council, take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the mayor’s office at historic City Hall.

Port Townsend planning

The Port Townsend Planning Commission will discuss its assessment of the comprehensive plan when it meets Thursday.

The commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at historic City Hall.

No action will be taken.

Port Townsend schools

The Port Townsend School Board will consider accepting the resignation of Holley Carlson, board chair, when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Gael Stuart Building, 1610 Blaine St.

Carlson sent a letter of resignation to Superintendent David Engle on Thursday.

The board also will consider the school calendar and student fees for 2015-16.

Port of Port Townsend

The Port of Port Townsend commissioners will discuss charging fees for commercial activities at the port’s boat ramp when they meet in regular session Wednesday.

The regular meeting will begin at 1 p.m. in the commission building at 333 Benedict St. It will be preceded by a workshop at 9:30 a.m. in the same location.

Commissioners are asked to give the staff direction on developing a fee schedule for fish-buying and loading operations at the boat ramp.

Commissioners also will consider final approval of a consolidated lease with Coast Seafoods in Quilcene.

During the morning workshop, commissioners will discuss monthly moorage and marine trade in-water work as well as changes in the port mission statement.

Peninsula College

Peninsula College trustees will consider the operating budget for 2015-16 when they meet Thursday.

The meeting will be at 2 p.m. in the Cornaby Center on the Port Angeles campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Chimacum schools

The Chimacum School District will consider a memorial for Chris Martin when it meets Wednesday.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. in the library at the high school at 91 West Valley Road.

Martin died of a stroke at the age of 44 in March.

He had served as the district’s technical director since he had graduated in 1990.

Jefferson Transit

The Jefferson Transit Authority Board meeting originally set for Tuesday has been canceled.

The next meeting will be 1:30 p.m. July 21. Beginning then, meetings will be at 63 Four Corners Road in Port Townsend unless otherwise posted.
