EYE ON CLALLAM: Port Angeles City Council to discuss humane society funding Tuesday — corrected

EDITOR’S NOTE: This report has been corrected to reflect that the Port Angeles City Council will meet Tuesday.

The Port Angeles City Council is scheduled to discuss a final decision on funding for the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society on Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

Council members scheduled the discussion at their Nov. 17 meeting after about two dozen Humane Society supporters objected to a $22,000 cut in the organization’s funding for 2016 as part of a 2016 general fund budget.

In other action, council members will consider adopting a $109.6 million budget for 2016, discuss a 2016 and 2017 salary and benefits package for nonrepresented staff and hear a presentation on a climate-change preparedness plan.

They also will consider a Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center contract and a professional services tourism marketing contract with Vertigo Marketing of Bend, Ore.

County commissioners

Clallam County commissioners will hold public hearings Tuesday on the 2016 draft budget.

The hearings will begin at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

A final county budget will be adopted no later than Dec. 8.

Commissioners also will consider adopting a 2016 construction program and acknowledge proposals received for design and engineering services for the Lower Dungeness Floodplain Restoration and Levee Realignment Project.

They also will acknowledge proposals received for mental health-substance abuse intervention services in the public schools and consider appointing a member to the Marine Resources Committee.

At a work session that will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the same location, commissioners will discuss county Charter Review Commission recommendations, renewal of a contract for county jail inmate health services, a proposed resolution to convene the county Board of Equalization.

Public utility district

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will conduct their first board meeting in the district’s new facility Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Lake Crescent Boardroom at the new Carlsborg office, located at 104 Hooker Road.

Agenda items include contractor pre-qualifications, a software agreement and a resolution establishing the day, time and place of regular commissioner meetings.

Also, staff will report on applying for Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance for damage associated with the August windstorm.

Planning commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will conduct a work session for a continued review of a draft shoreline master plan on Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 160 at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Olympic Medical Center

Clallam County Hospital District 2 commissioners will hear a report on a family practice rural residency program when they meet Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Linkletter Hall in the basement of Olympic Medical Center, 939 Caroline St., Port Angeles.

The program will be shared by OMC, Swedish Medical Center of Seattle and the√North Olympic Healthcare Network federally qualified health clinic, formerly Family Medicine of Port Angeles.

Its sponsors hope the program will to attract doctors near the end of their schooling who will then enter practice in Clallam County.

Other items on Wednesday’s agenda include:

■   Employment agreements for an obstetrician/gynecologist, pulmonary nurse, radiation oncologists and for medical oncology services.

■   Updates on Olympic Home Health and the 2016-2018 Strategic Plan.

■   Change orders to the medical office building construction.

■   Buying diagnostic imaging equipment.
