EYE ON CLALLAM: Hearing slated for county weed plan

The three Clallam County commissioners will conduct a public hearing to consider a roadside weed-management policy Tuesday.

The hearing will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

A proposed new chapter in county code titled “Integrated Roadside Weed Management” would allow herbicides as one method to kill noxious weeds and invasive plants along the 500-mile county road system.

Commissioners will hold their weekly business meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Action items include:

■ Recognition of Superior Court Judge George L. Wood for more than 22 years of service to Clallam County.

■ An agreement with the city of Sequim for use of the city Police Department for Sheriff’s Office business.

■ A request for proposals due June 12 for Clallam County general funds for homelessness-related services.

■ A public hearing to amend policy for new business hours at the courthouse.

Commissioners will discuss several action items in their weekly work session at 9 a.m. today.

Port Angeles city

Port Angeles City Council members will consider pursuing a $226,500 state grant to fund new lighting for Civic Field when they meet Tuesday.

The meeting at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St., will be preceded by a 5 p.m. special meeting.

The special meeting will consist of a joint session with the city Utility Advisory Committee on the city Capital Facilities Transportation Improvement Plans.

The regular meeting at 6 p.m. will include the first reading of a priority-setting resolution for balancing the 2015 and 2016 budgets and the second reading of an ordinance that would establish a contracted land-use hearing examiner position.

Council members also will hear a presentation on Wave Broadband cable TV access channels.

Clallam Transit

The Clallam Transit board will gather in Forks today.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. today at the Peninsula College Forks Extension facility at 481 S. Forks Ave.

Agenda items include acceptance of an agreement for an Olympic Community Action Programs West End job lift program.

Charter review

The Clallam County Charter Review Commission will hold a general meeting today.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse.

Public hearings are planned for June 1 in Forks, June 15 in Sequim and June 29 in Port Angeles.

Planning Commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will consider a recommendation on development regulations for recreational marijuana growers, processors and retailers Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse.

The commission also will review a Senate bill that would provide a regulatory framework for medical marijuana through the structure provided for recreational marijuana under state Initiative 502.

Olympic Medical Center

Clallam County Hospital District 2 commissioners will receive a first-quarter financial report when they meet Wednesday.

Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. in Linkletter Hall in the basement of Olympic Medical Center, 939 Caroline St., Port Angeles.

Board of Health

The Clallam County Board of Health will consider recommending hiring a new health officer when it meets Tuesday.

The board will meet at 1:30 p.m. in Room 160 of the Clallam County Courthouse.

Commissioners have interviewed Dr. Frank Cook to replace interim health officer Dr. Jeannette Stehr-Green, who has filled the job since the end-of-year retirement of Dr. Tom Locke.

Other agenda items include a report on the Syringe Services Program’s proposed naloxone distribution and recruitment of a public health nurse and a report on Hepatitis C in Clallam County.

Port Angeles schools

The Port Angeles School Board will conduct a 2015-16 budget work session when it meets Wednesday.

The special meeting will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Central Services Building, 216 E. Fourth St.

Sequim School Board

Sequim School Board members will consider options for the superintendent position when they meet in executive session after their regular meeting today.

The regular meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the district boardroom at 503 N. Sequim Ave.

During the closed door session, the board will consider its options now that it has decided against two finalists for the post that will be vacated by Patrick Kelly Shea on June 30.

Clallam PUD

There will be no meeting of the Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners today.

The next meeting will be June 1.
