PORT ANGELES — An Eatonville man was in the Clallam County jail Saturday after the State Patrol said he caused a wreck on U.S. Highway 101 two miles west of Port Angeles Friday evening that sent a Port Angeles motorcyclist to the hospital.
Craig Robert Ryan, 47, of Eatonville, about 40 miles southeast of Olympia, was booked into the county jail Friday night for investigation of one count each of fourth-degree assault and driving under the influence with no bond set.
The State Patrol said Ryan’s pickup truck collided with a motorcycle ridden by Brandon J. Sandstrom, 26, of Port Angeles, on Highway 101 near the junction with state Highway 112 at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Sandstrom was injured and taken to Olympic Medical Center by ambulance after the wreck, the State Patrol said.
He had been treated and discharged as of Saturday, according to a hospital representative.
The State Patrol said Ryan was headed east on Highway 101 in a 1993 white Dodge Ram pickup truck when he pulled to the right shoulder.
Ryan then started to make a U-turn, the State Patrol said, and collided with the Sandstrom, who was headed east on a 1995 Honda VT1 motorcycle.
The two vehicles collided in the westbound lane of the highway.
The State Patrol listed the cause as driving under the influence.
Both the truck and motorcycle were towed from the scene, the State Patrol said.
The wreck and ensuing investigation blocked the westbound lane for about six hours Friday night, according to the state Department of Transportation.
