PORT ANGELES — Shawn Sinskie and Karen L. Brown have opened CrossFit ThunderRidge, a community-centered gym open to individuals and families, at 325½ W. Second St. in the alley behind Armory Square Mall and the Port of Port Angeles building.
A grand-opening event is set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18.
“While getting in shape is a benefit, our focus is on creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle with community support,” the pair said in an email.
ThunderRidge provides ever-changing workouts of the day that combine bodyweight exercises, weightlifting, mobility techniques and high-intensity drills that combine cardio and strength challenges.
Weightload and intensity are varied, with a focus on using fundamental and functional movements, with an emphasis on proper form and technique.
Course programming is designed for scalability and applies equally to all athletes regardless of age or fitness level.
“In our group classes, we work together and support each other, forging a fit community,” Brown and Sinskie said.
Strength coaches working at the center include Sinskie, Mike Maynard and Mark Hodgson.
Sinskie and Brown also praised the efforts of building owners Jack Grey and Bill Clevenger of Angeles Furniture for “being a part of making our dream come true.”
