PORT ANGELES — Daishowa America Co. Ltd.’s parent company will officially become part Nippon Industries Co. Ltd. on Tuesday.
But the merger between Daishowa Paper Manufacturing Co. and Nippon Unipac Holding Co. will largely go unnoticed locally.
The name Daishowa America will continue to be used on signs at the Port Angeles mill for the immediate future.
The mill’s manager, Harold Norlund, says telephone book paper-making operations in the plant at the foot of Ediz Hook will continue unabated.
“With the merger, the new company, Nippon Paper Industries, will become the largest paper company in Japan and the sixth largest in the world,” Norlund said in a statement released late last week.
“The new relationship will allow us to consider future synergy opportunities.”
