Counties consider jail medical program, budget increases

Clallam County

The three Clallam County commissioners will discuss current and future options for staffing and funding the county jail medical program with Sheriff Bill Benedict and Chief Corrections Deputy Don Wenzl in their weekly work session Monday.

The commissioners’ work session, at 9 a.m. Monday, will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Agenda items include:

• A public hearing on the mid-year review of the 2022 budget.

• An update on tourism on the Olympic Peninsula from Marsha Massey of the Olympic Peninsula Visitor Bureau.

• An agreement with the Department of Ecology for $19,840 for four Washington Conservation Corps crew weeks to complete planting for the Dungeness floodplains restoration project.

• An agreement with Jefferson County to reimburse Clallam County $15,000 for activities in support of the North Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee.

• Opening of bids for the Village Lane sewer main extension project in Carlsborg.

• An amendment to an agreement between the Department of Commerce and the county’s Juvenile and Family Services for additional behavioral health support in the youth shelter, increasing the contract by $75,942 for a total of $584,896 for services between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023.

Jefferson County

The three Jefferson County commissioners will discuss proposed second quarter budget increases when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The commissioners will hear an update on COVID-19 from Dr. Allison Berry at 9:45 a.m., conduct an after-action review of the Department of Emergency Management, review guidelines for county boards and commissions to comply with the Open Public Meeting Act, discuss the fair and fairgrounds with fairgrounds Manager Danny McEnerney and conduct a workshop on maximum property taxes that can be assessed.

Items on the consent agenda include a notice of a public hearing related to changing county code regarding the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, an amended agreement with OWL 360 for an additional $55,000 for the Pfeiffer House sustainable housing project, an amended agreement with Dove House for an additional $50,000 for services at Recovery Cafe, an amended agreement with Olympic Peninsula YMCA for an additional $9,448 for family resources navigator, an amended agreement with Concerned Citizens for an additional $16,125 for early intervention services, and agreement with Clallam Mosaic for $61,211 for community inclusion services, amended agreements with Jumping Mouse Children’s Center for an additional $27,230 for mental health services for children, an agreement with Michellli Measurement Group for $241,558 to replace the pit scale at the transfer station and a motion to extend written testimony for the no-shooting area near Greater Jolie Way and Silver Berry Place through July 25.

Association of counties

The Washington State Association of Counties will hear a weekly update on COVID-19 when they meet at noon Monday.

Both Clallam and Jefferson counties will participate.

Clallam planning commission

The Clallam County Planning Commission will discuss the county sign ordinance at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
