Coho ferry takes maintenance break through Feb. 7

PORT ANGELES — Black Ball Ferry Line’s MV Coho begins its annual maintenance break on Monday.

The ferry, which runs between Victoria and Port Angeles, will be out of service through Feb. 7 to complete refurbishments and undergo maintenance.

Regular service will resume Feb. 8 when the Coho departs Port Angeles for Victoria at 8:20 a.m.

Except for its annual break for maintenance, the Coho offers year-round passenger and vehicle service during 90-minute trips across the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Black Ball Ferry Line, which operates the Coho, was recently acquired by its executive management team from the Oregon State University Foundation.

Black Ball had been bequeathed to the foundation by former owner Lois Acheson in 2004 as part of a $21-million gift of her estate to establish an endowment in OSU’s college of veterinary medicine.

The Coho can accommodate 1,000 foot passengers and 120 vehicles on a sailing.
