Candidate filings in Jefferson, Clallam counties slow down

Wednesday yielded only a few new candidates filing for fall elections in Jefferson and Clallam counties.

In Jefferson County, John R. Hynson, a Port Townsend attorney, filed for the District Court judge seat being vacated by Mark Huth.

Candidates for the seat who filed earlier this week are attorneys Jill Landes of Port Townsend and Rebekah Ross of Brinnon.

In Clallam County, three more residents filed their candidacies for election to the Charter Review Commission.

Fifteen people — five from each county commissioner’s district — will be chosen to review the home-rule charter, recommend changes and put them to the vote in November 2008.

Filing with the county auditor Wednesday were Patti Morris and Kaj Ahlburg, both of Port Angeles, in District 2, and Tom Shindler of Port Angeles in District 3.

On the federal level, incumbent U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Mountlake Terrace, filed her candidacy Wednesday.

Brad Klippert of Benton City, a Republican, joined the GOP’s Mike McGavick and seven other candidates seeking their respective parties’ nomination. The seven filed earlier this week.

Filing ends Friday at 4:30 p.m. Candidates for county offices must file at their respective county courthouses.

State and federal candidates must file with the secretary of state’s office in Olympia.
