PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Economic Development Council presented Orville Campbell with the 2005 Olympic Leader Award on Thursday.
Campbell, EDC netWorks Marine Service Cluster Team co-chairperson, was recognized for his current and past leadership, service and active involvement in Clallam County economic and community development activities.
Linda Rotmark, Economic Development Council executive director, said that although Campbell “retired in 1994,”‘ he has been active in public service in the community for many years.
Rod Fleck, EDC past president, said, “Orville Campbell epitomizes the kind of leadership we’d all like to aspire to.”
Campbell accepted the award and thanked his wife, Phyllis, for her support of his community activities.
Currently, Campbell serves as president of the Port Angeles Business Association, chair of the Boundary Review Board, president of First Step Family Support Board and board member of the North Olympic Land Trust.
He has been a resident of Port Angeles since 1973 and retired from Fort James Corp. after 45 years in the paper and pulp industry.
After retiring, he remained involved with the Elwha River dams and Daishowa America until 2000.
He also served as a Port Angeles City Council member in 1995-2003 and is a former Port Angeles deputy mayor.
