Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce — Weekly luncheon meetings are held Mondays at noon in the second-floor meeting room of the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St.
This Monday’s speaker will be Clallam Transit General Manager Wendy Clark-Getzin.
Luncheon tickets are $15 and can be purchased from the meeting room cashier.
For those not having lunch, there is a $3 participation fee that includes a beverage.
Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce — Weekly luncheon meetings are held Mondays at noon at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St.
This Monday’s program will feature Erin Brown, financial counseling supervisor and compliance officer for Jefferson Healthcare, and Julia Danskin, Jefferson County public health supervisor.
They will discuss the new Washington Health Insurance Exchange program and the Get Covered Jefferson County Campaign relating to the federal Affordable Care Act.
Lunch at $8 will be catered by Subway. The meeting sponsor will be Seaport Landing.
Forks Chamber of Commerce — Luncheon meetings are Wednesdays at noon at JT’s Sweet Stuffs, 80 N. Forks Ave.
This Wednesday’s featured speaker Kyle Cronk, executive director of the Clallam County Family YMCA.
Lunch costs $8; a bowl of soup, $4.75; and a cup of soup, $4. The entree is meatloaf.
Port Angeles Business Association — Breakfast meetings are Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. at Joshua’s Restaurant, 113 DelGuzzi Drive, Port Angeles.
This Tuesday’s speaker was not announced.
There is a $3 minimum charge by Joshua’s for those who do not order breakfast.

Open house fetes retiring library chief
PORT HADLOCK — An open house to honor retiring Library Director Ray Serebrin will be held at the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave., from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 30).
Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Jefferson County Library.
The event is free and open to the public.
Wine-tasting set
SEQUIM — Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., will hold a public tasting of its Library REaD wine from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. this coming Saturday (Nov. 2).
Library REaD is a limited-production blended wine.
This wine is a fundraiser for the libraries of Clallam and Jefferson counties.

New certification
PORT ANGELES — Peninsula Behavioral Health Human Resources Associate Anita Mauger recently earned certification as a professional in human resources.
The certification, awarded by the HR Certification Institute, signifies that Mauger possesses the theoretical knowledge and practical experience in human resource management necessary to pass a rigorous examination demonstrating a mastery of the field.
To become certified, an applicant must pass a comprehensive examination and demonstrate a strong background of professional human resource experience.
The HR Certification Institute is the credentialing body for human resource professionals and is affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management, the world’s largest organization dedicated exclusively to the human resource profession.
PA journeyman certified by state Labor-Industries
PORT ANGELES — Brian T. Meek of APS Electrical Contractor Inc. has met the state Department of Labor & Industries’ requirements for his commercial journeyman license and has received his 01 designation.
Meek has been employed by APS Electrical Contractor since December 2004 and has met the on-the-job required hours plus classroom and continuing education requirements.
He has been trained by master electrician Andy Slack, who is also the administrator for the company, owned by Slack and his wife, Sheryl.
Meek’s duties include all aspects of residential and commercial wiring.
He is the son of Wally and Kristi Meek of Port Angeles and a 2001 graduate of Port Angeles High School.
Tutoring service starts
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles native Robert Allman Jr., aka “Professor Bob,” has launched One Step Up, an academic tutoring service focused on the subjects of math, physics and chemistry.
Allman holds a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Washington, a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Pacific Lutheran University and a master’s degree from UCLA.
He has more than 15 years of teaching/tutoring experience at the community college and university levels, both online and in the classroom.
Allman has held teaching positions at Peninsula College, Edmonds Community College, Olympic College and the online Kaplan University.
He also built his own tutorial website in chemistry at www.chemstone.net.

No-bully campaign
SEQUIM — Mindy Amita Aisling is providing the Sequim Boys & Girls Club with speakers and activities for more than 200 children as part of a Compassionate Kids Campaign.
Other professionals participating in the campaign are Erran Sharpe of Sharpe Therapy, Kristin Halberg of KIC Coaching, Meghan Ventura of Phoenix Dragon Marital Arts and Naomi Davidson with Attachment Parenting International.
Aisling is a board-certified life coach trained by the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching, which is accredited by the International Coach Federation.
Aisling is also a founding member of Thriving on the Olympic Peninsula, a coalition of wellness professionals “dedicated to collaboration in lieu of competition, dynamic win/wins and creation of abundance on the Peninsula for both individuals and businesses.”
She teaches several private and group courses, presents a variety of workshops throughout the year and is often hired to organize events such as the one outlined above, organizers say.

Move downtown
PORT ANGELES — The Clallam Conservation District has moved to the Armory Square building, 228 W. First St., in downtown Port Angeles.
The new office is in Suite H, which is on the west end of the building at street level.
An open house is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12.
The new office space houses the four conservation district employees.
It also has a small conference room where board meetings will be held the second Tuesday of each month.
The conservation district’s federal partner, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, remains in the USDA Service Center on East Front Street.
New at salon
PORT ANGELES — Hairstylist and Neah Bay native Nicole Johnson has joined the team at Shear Design, 1105 E. Front St., Suite A.
Johnson has 10 years of hair and nail experience and attended Gene Juarez Academy. She is a hair color specialist and certified in shellac nails.
Johnson is available Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and by special appointment Fridays.

Hartnagel employee celebrates 25 years
PORT ANGELES — Dave Olson is celebrating his 25th anniversary with Hartnagel Building Supply, where he has worked since October 1988.
When he first started with the company, Olson remembers that he “and one other guy were the whole yard crew and only about nine employees worked at the store,” which at the time was located on Front and Race streets.
Olson made deliveries and worked in the lumber yard loading materials for customers.
After driving for several years, he moved inside to front counter sales and then worked his way into his current position in the contractor sales department.
Olson has seen many changes over the years and became an employee owner when Hartnagel transitioned to an employee stock ownership company in 2004.
Then in 2008, Olson helped move the store into a larger facility at its current location at 3111 E. U.S. Highway 101.
“Over the years, it’s been a constant learning experience with new products on the market almost every month,” Olson said.
PA, Clallam finance pros honored
PORT ANGELES — Jill Colvin of the Clallam County Treasurer’s Office and Sherry Wright with the city of Port Angeles have received the Professional Finance Officer award from the Washington Finance Officers Association.
Colvin is an investment officer for Clallam County, and Wright is the senior accountant for the city of Port Angeles.
The annual award recognizes achievements of professional service and ongoing continuing education and training on the part of each individual.
The Washington Finance Officers Association is a professional association of finance officers from towns, cities, counties, the state and other governmental units with the state of Washington.
