SEQUIM — Mayor Candace Pratt, will speak at the Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Speaker Series and business meeting in the fellowship hall of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Pratt will be first on the program, followed by a short recess before the regular business meeting.
Light refreshments and coffee will be served.
The public is encouraged to attend the speaker portion of the meeting.

Tax workshop set
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles office of the state Department of Revenue will host a free tax workshop for new and small-business owners.
The workshop is in the Clallam Transit System Conference Room, 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd., from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.
Participants will learn about Washington excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection and record-keeping requirements.
An informal setting allows participants to ask questions specific to their businesses, and all receive a workbook and reference guide to department rules and regulations.

6,700 jobs added
OLYMPIA — The state added an estimated 6,700 jobs in March, and the unemployment rate is holding at 6.3 percent, according to a report released Wednesday by the state Employment Security Department.
Officials said the rate matches February’s jobless numbers, which had been revised down from an original estimate of 6.4 percent.
Said Paul Turek, a labor economist with the department: “It’s another small indication that the labor market is getting better. We’re getting job creation, but it’s not gang-busters job creation.”
Figures for Clallam and Jefferson counties are expected to be released Tuesday.
