BUSINESS BRIEFS: Jamestown S’Klallam tribe to host business showcase this Saturday in Blyn . . . and other items

BLYN — Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Library will sponsor Heron Happenings small-business showcase at Red Cedar Hall on the Jamestown S’Klallam tribal complex, 1033 Old Blyn Highway, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Heron Happenings will feature small businesses that are creative and service enterprises.

The event is free.

Recent graduates of a series of marketing classes for small-business owners sponsored by the tribal library will showcase a variety of products and services that will be available for purchase.

The classes, taught by Renne Emiko Brock-Richmond, focused on basic marketing, using social media and the design and construction of websites.

Food safety awards

PORT TOWNSEND — The 2014 Outstanding Achievement Awards were presented at a recent Jefferson County Board of Health meeting to recognize 22 restaurants, full-service food establishments and their proprietors who demonstrated the highest standards for safe food handling over the past year.

Jefferson County Public Health and the Board of Health recognized 22 restaurants and proprietors for their dedication in 2014 to preventing illness and encourages the entire food industry to strive for the same honor.

Criteria for the award were developed by the county’s Food Safety Roundtable and food safety staff.

These are based on food safety inspections conducted in the areas of personal hygiene, food temperature safety and prevention of contamination.

All food workers must hold a current Washington state food worker card.

2014 Outstanding Achievement Award winners are Belmont Catering, Blue Heron Middle School, Brinnon School District, Cedarbrook School, Chimacum Primary School, Chimacum Elementary School, Chimacum Middle School, Chimacum High School and Ferino’s Pizzeria.

Also, Food Co-op Grocery, Inn at Port Ludlow Catering, Jefferson County Horse Project 4-H, Jefferson County Jail, Jefferson Mental Health, Lanza’s, Lively Olive Tasting Bar, Port Townsend Senior Nutrition, Port Townsend High School cafeteria, QFC No. 106 Deli-Port Townsend, Queets-Clearwater Elementary School, Quilcene School cafe­teria and Timberhouse Restaurant.

Green Crow turns 30

GREEN CROW CORP., a Port Angeles-based company with interests in timberland, surface mining, log trading, real estate development and homebuilding, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

The family-owned business was formed in 1985 by David and Gretchen Crow, John David Crow and Randy Johnson.

Green Crow has grown from owning and managing 16,000 acres with four employees in Clallam County to a business that now manages 100,000 acres and has 50 employees spread out in Western Washington, Oregon, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.

A company spokesperson said Green Crow will hold a formal 30th anniversary celebration this summer in Port Angeles.

KONP talk guests
