JOYCE — A state advisory urging people in 500 homes and businesses served by the Crescent Water Association to boil their tap water could be lifted as early as today.
The state Department of Health issued an advisory Tuesday recommending Joyce water association customers boil tap water after a water outage caused by a broken main Monday.
The association submitted water samples Wednesday morning and will have results by this morning, said Connie Beauvais, water association manager.
“If it is clean, the advisory will be lifted,” she said.
The water association repaired the water pipe break by about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Beauvais said.
“Everyone should have water now,” she said Wednesday.
Customers east of Miller Road were most affected by the loss of water pressure, but all are being advised to boil their tap water until the district can have the water quality tested.
When pressure is lost, potentially harmful bacteria can enter water lines.
“Nothing has been found in the water,” Beauvais said, “but we just want to verify that it is OK.”
To kill bacteria, the state recommends boiling tap water used for drinking, brushing teeth, dish washing, preparing food and making ice.
Water should be boiled for one minute and allowed to cool before use.
Customers will be notified when the water is safe to drink.
