PORT TOWNSEND — The Point Wilson Sail and Power Squadron will offer an 8-hour boating safety class online in April and May.
The class will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, April 26, Wednesday, April 28, Monday, May 3 and Wednesday, May 5.
The course costs $20 per household.
Topics include safety issues for sail and power boats, navigational rules, anchoring, handling emergencies at sea, using a VHF radio and trailering.
An exam will be scheduled after completion of the class.
Successful students will qualify for the Washington state boater’s education card.
The card is mandatory for anyone born after 1954 who operates a boat with a 15-horsepower, or larger, engine in Washington state waters; the card will also satisfy Canadian boating proficiency requirements, once the border reopens.
