Nine industrial arts students from Port Angeles High School took precision seriously Saturday during a skills competition for precision machining.

The three-part competition opens the door for the state machining tournament April 17-20 in Spokane. The top four finishers Saturday will be selected for advancement.

Students were required to cut pieces of metal to exact specifications set out in a set of blueprints using drills, lathes and milling machines.

In addition, participants took written tests on machining and performed inspections of pre-cut materials.

The contest was conducted by the Port Angeles chapter of the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America.
