Attempted U-turn ends in collision

FORKS — A man from Vancouver, Wash., was taken to Forks Community Hospital after his Jeep utility vehicle was struck by another vehicle when he attempted a U-turn on U.S. Highway 101, the State Patrol said.

Bradley D. Tuffley, 40, was pulling a boat when he stopped at milepost 180 on the right shoulder of northbound Highway 101 in West Jefferson County at about 5:21 p.m. Thursday, according to a State Patrol memo.

He attempted a U-turn to travel south and was struck by a pickup driven by Austin C. Wagner, 26, of Sequim, the memo said.

Tuffley’s condition was not available on Monday. His passenger, Francis D. Tuffley, 70, of Bainbridge Island, was not hurt, troopers said. Neither were Wagner nor his passenger, Morgan A. Shaw, 25, of Ferndale, troopers said.

The cause of the wreck was an improper U-turn, according to the memo, which added that charges were pending.

All were wearing seat belts; no drugs nor alcohol were involved, the memo stated.

Tuffley’s vehicle was completely destroyed while Wagner’s suffered reportable damage, troopers said.
