And the winners are . . . in our best holiday pet photo contest

WE HAVE TALLIED the votes in our online Holiday Photos with Pets Contest and are pleased to announce our winners!

First place

The most festive pet on the North Olympic Peninsula is a 4-year-old golden retriever named Marley.

The photo of Marley sporting a colorful Christmas collar in front of a cozy fireplace was taken by Lindsey Marsaw of Port Angeles.

Marley’s first-place prize is from Wilder Auto in Port Angeles — a Seahawks-themed dog bed and additional dog goodies including a Seahawk sweater, beef jerky, dog toys, a water/food bowl, a travel pet water bottle, a car harness and a travel pad.

Second place

Twyla Grant Luke of Sequim won a $25 gift certificate from McPhee’s Grocery in Port Angeles for her snapshot of a dog her family named Butterscotch who was rescued from a roadside on Christmas Eve.

Third place

Viola O’Neil of Port Angeles won a $25 gift card from Port Angeles Papa Murphys Pizza for her photo of a man feeding apples to a young buck deer, and scratching its head.

Merit award

Pam Suslick of Forks won a $25 gift certificate from Fiesta Jalisco in Port Angeles for her sweet photo of her dog Chantilly Lace “Tilly” with Santa.

The photo contest was co-sponsored by Peninsula Daily News, Sequim Gazette and Forks Forum.

The 45 photos drew a total of 474 online votes.

 

The contest featured dogs, cats, birds, deer — and even a cute little pig.

Sequim shifts to remote utility meters

Installation for devices began last August

A family of eagles sits in a tree just north of Carrie Blake Community Park. Following concerns over impacts to the eagles and nearby Garry oak trees, city staff will move Sequim’s Fourth of July fireworks display to the other side of Carrie Blake Community Park.
