AAUW to host silent auction, robotics demo Saturday in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend branch of the American Association of University Women will host a silent auction and robotics demonstration Saturday.

The silent auction will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St.

It will follow a brief AAUW branch meeting beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The public is welcome. Only cash and checks will be accepted.

Proceeds will help fund college scholarships for women of East Jefferson County.

This year, the annual auction will feature an array of new or gently used items as well as special experiences.

Hand-knit items, purses, camping and outdoor-activity gear, artistic works by AAUW members, books/CDs/DVDs and a special “50 cents per item” collection are planned.

Experiences up for bid will include a variety of baked-to-order treats, a cocktail boating cruise for six, help with weeding, movie parties in a private home theater, a beach cabin overnighter, a sailing lesson and lunch for four by a sailing expert, an art lesson and genealogy sessions.

Students from the Port Townsend High School Varsity Robotics Team, together with their instructor, Austin Henry, will demonstrate the robot they constructed this year for competitions.

“This will be an exciting opportunity to see some of our outstanding local students in action,” said Lynn Meyer, chairwoman of the silent auction.
