LETTER:Carroll missed

Goodbye Pete.

When I saw the press conference where Pete Carroll said he was leaving his post as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, it caught me flat-footed.

After 14 exuberant seasons, I honestly believed he would still be at the helm until he decided to retire when he was at the callow age of 96, directly after he won the final game of his career, chewing his gum maniacally as always.

I will miss you. It is indeed the end of an era.
