LETTER: U.S. democracy hangs by a thread thanks to Electoral College inequality

It should be apparent that the institution of electoral politics known as the Electoral College is not only obsolete but a threat to American democracy.

The fundamental question one must answer is:

Does an institution that can favor a minority of voters over a majority in a presidential election represent the democratic principles as intended in the American Constitution?

In my lifetime, the Electoral College voted twice for a president the majority of American voters did not want.

The first, George W. Bush, was a moron who started two wars and created a near-total financial collapse.

The second, Donald Trump, is a demagogue, a habitual liar whose election victory is facing grave questions about its legitimacy.

In this case, 77,000 voters overruled 3 million voters.

Democracy in America is on a razor’s edge.
