LETTER: Steven Chinn was the obvious choice then and he is now

In this primary election, voters in Fire District 3 will choose among three candidates for the position of fire commissioner.

I strongly urge you to cast your vote for Steven Chinn.

I have known Steve for over 30 years as I worked alongside him as a teacher in the Sequim School District.

I have witnessed his expertise as a wrestling coach in training, encouraging, preparing and mentoring young wrestlers for over 30 years, going well beyond his years as a teacher.

In reality, Steve’s qualifications for the position of fire commissioner come from over 26 years of service he has dedicated to this community as a volunteer firefighter, wildland firefighter, instructor, supervisor and coordinator in charge of recruiting.

I and many others proudly supported him on three different occasions when, as a volunteer, he did The Big Climb, a stair climb run to the top of the Columbia Center in Seattle, to raise funds and awareness for children suffering from leukemia.

Steve retired as a captain in 2014 after twice being honored as firefighter of the year in 1997 and 2006.

However, he continues to serve this community after being appointed as fire commissioner, filling a vacancy in District 3.

He was the obvious choice then and he is now.

Vote for Steve Chinn for Fire District 3.

Kevin L. Magner,
