LETTER: So just ban everything

According to the author of “Who Needs It?” (PDN, Feb. 9) anyone who owns an AR-15 rifle is probably a mass murderer waiting to happen.

It never ceases to amaze me how some folks seem to think.

Yes, I feel horrible that people’s lives are being taken by folks with mental health problems who decide to use a firearm to commit a horrific crime.

But all crimes involving a human are horrible.

After these crimes are committed, there is always an underlying cause why the person committed the shooting, just like in any other crime.

Just watch the news.

People call the AR-15 an assault weapon, why is that anyway?

What else could be considered an assault weapon?

How about a knife, a drunk driver (alcohol), religious zealots (such as ISIS), fast food restaurants (all that greasy, unhealthy food), drugs (already illegal or otherwise), China, SARS-CoV2 (which killed millions) and lots more.

These are just a few examples; how about we just ban them along with anything else that could potentially harm us?

Why aren’t the people who complain so bitterly about AR-15 rifles not raising a stink about these things as well?

An AR-15 is not mentally deranged, the person shooting random people with it is.

Enforce the firearms laws already on the books.

Give law enforcement the tools to enforce the laws we already have.

Owning firearms is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, along with our other rights.

Enough said.
