LETTER: Sequim was wrong about stores, is wrong about MAT

Twenty-some years ago another Save Our Sequim was formed.

This one organized by amateur do-gooders.

We were saving Sequim from Walmart and big box stores.

We desperately believed that Walmart would destroy downtown Sequim and turn it into a ghost town.

We gave it a good fight against the strong odds of professional lawyers in black suits with tons of money.

We protested with handmade signs at the west end of Washington Street, showed films of other Walmart disasters, and appealed to city hall.

Well, I admit we were wrong.

Walmart and the big box stores have been a boon to the town’s growth and downtown is thriving.

My point and hope is that this present SOS is perhaps experiencing similar fears and will regret their opposition once the medication-assisted treatment campus is in operation.

They they will look back and say, “What was I so worried about? Sequim is peaceful, and the many afflicted are receiving holistic care in a beautiful facility.”

Our changing Sequim will be rewarded for its insight and care during the crisis of our opioid addiction.
